Rachel Starmer, MACC, LPC

I specialize in helping people have healthy, full relationships with themselves and others. The first part of this process is understanding the relationship you have with yourself. Do you feel confused about what you want? Do you find yourself working hard to please others with little thanks for it? Do you find yourself trying to plan out everything to ensure everything goes according to plan and frustrated when you still don’t feel satisfied? Or are you feeling a need for change and just don’t know where to go next?
We will work together to examine thoughts, habits, and beliefs to determine what’s getting in the way of your best efforts. And we’ll work to connect to and understand your emotions as information you can use. We’ll uncover values, patterns, and stories and identify solutions and skills for change.
I incorporate Psychodynamic, Relational Life Therapy, Family Systems Theory, Narrative Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing techniques—and a lot of humor and creativity in my work with clients. In other words, we’ll have lots of conversations about your values and your perspectives, your family, how you tell your stories, what you think and how you feel (physically, emotionally, and spiritually), what connects and what doesn’t connect, where there is dissonance and where there is a sense of flow. I focus on helping you develop awareness, curiosity, flexibility, courage, and openness to awe. I often introduce the arts and client interests (e.g., music, art, poetry, videos etc.) to support therapy work. I offer challenge and accountability with plenty of warmth.
I have experience working with trauma, relationship issues, life transitions, anxiety, addiction recovery, and spirituality. I particularly enjoy working with other therapists, clergy, health care professionals, creative professionals, and educators. I engage in continuing education regularly, focusing particularly on relational trauma treatment and relationship repair.
I work with individuals (18+) and couples via teletherapy.
